KABUL, 4 October 2017 – The Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan is pleased to announce the signing, with the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the Electoral Complaints Commission, of the Project Document to support Afghanistan elections. The Project Document was signed today in Kabul at the first meeting of the Project Board, providing the legal and financial framework allowing the UN and donors to support and strengthen Afghanistan’s electoral institutions and operations.
IEC has already started polling centers/stations assessment/relocation process. It will end on 05 Sept 17. At the end of the process, IEC convenes open meetings in accordance to article 20th of election law.

The new elected chairman of IEC, Honorable Najeebullah Ahmadzai and his team appeared in a press conference today morning. Mr. Ahmadzai thanked the President and the Chief Executive for assigning such heavy job to him and his team in respect of leading IEC. He thanked IEC’s Ex Commissioners for their efforts too.
The Chairman of IEC committed that he will perform all his activities as a powerful team transparently and will amend all IEC’s procedures and documents according to new Election Law.
