Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan is hosting the 8th Meeting of “Forum of Election Management Bodies of South Asia” (FEMBoSA) in Afghanistan. The seventh FEMBoSA was chaired by Election Commission Maldives chairman HE. Mr. Amjad Musthafa for a year. It is scheduled that the chairmanship of FEMBoSA will be handed over to the IEC Afghanistan on 24th Sep 17 through formal function. HE. Mr. Najeebullah Ahmadzai is going to chair FEMBoSA for one-year tenure (2017 – 2018).
The official meeting of FEMBoSA will start on 24th Sep 17 and will last for two days till 25th Sep 17 and the delegates will discuss a wide range of electoral related issues including free and fair elections, strengthening democracy, promoting participatory & inclusive democracies, importance of women participation, inclusion of people with special needs, autonomous and independent EMBs, overcoming the challenges faced in elections, constructive and pro-active media engagement and impact of social media, youth voters’ engagement, strategic planning and other areas the delegation may agrees to be followed for the next year.
The delegations of the Maldives, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Butane, Bangladesh have already arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan. On 25 Sept 2017, the guests will take part in a special dinner party by the Chairman of Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan in Babur Historical Garden (Babur Bagh) at 19:30.
On the third day, the delegations will take part in a short 6-7 hours cultural tour to central highlands of Afghanistan (Bamyan province) to visit famous Buddha Sculptures, historical Ghulghula city and Bandi Amir National Park.
The delegations will depart on Wednesday, 27th September 2017.
