Joint meeting of IEC, security institutions and election stakeholders contacted on 25th March 2018 at IEC HQ office. Dr. Abdul Badi Sayat Chairman of IEC welcomed the guests and showed their concerns regarding the security of polling stations and delivery of electoral material; therefore the committee will arrange the meeting once a week for better cooperation to share their plan, notify and solve any raised difficulties.
Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan intent to contact a free and fair election in all over the country. As you are aware that IEC has all the technical preparation for contacting upcoming election and voter registry process which will happening within one month. All sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials (VR stationary, VR books and training books) based on plan have been designed, sent for printing and delivery to the IEC HQ office ware houses.
IEC management met 28 political parties’ director and representatives at IEC HQ office on 13th March 2018. Representative of political parties committed for cooperation and added that we 28 official and registered political parties within the ministry of justice are pursuing for conducting transparent election without frauds as IEC do all effort on it. The representatives also said that political parties and IEC have mutual views on conducting elections, public awareness, monitoring election and systematic changes.
IEC management initiated the shortlisting process of (29) applicants for vacant position of Chief Electoral Officer- CEO on 12th March 2018 at IEC HQ office with presence of observer and international community representatives. Based on the article 22 and 12 of electoral law IEC management will select three eligible candidates for the position of CEO and will submit the documents to government for appointing one from these three candidates as IEC Chief Electoral Officer.
